June Weblog

June 16, 2008

I'm regrouping after my 2nd relocation (in as many months) and found some interesting US legislation as I was catching up on Web accessibility news. The House Committee on Energy and Commerce's Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet is amending the Communications Act of 1934. They're calling it the Twenty-first Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2008. While the main focus is on television and telephone technology, I'm curious to find out how they're addressing Web-enabled smart phones. Perhaps this could be a way to backdoor Web accessibility legislation for mobile-optimized Web sites, as well as general Web sites that host television content. I'm going to review the legislative draft more closely and see what I find.
